Our Dr.Ohmagari, CTO of ExtenD Co.,Ltd., has recently been featured as the main character in a comic. The story covers his journey, beginning from his time at AIST to the founding of ExtenD.
I am excited to announce that I have become the protagonist of a comic!
The comic, drawn by professional artist Akira Shinohara, clearly illustrates how a startup company was born from my research activities at AIST.
When the Game Boy was first introduced, it wasn’t built with the most cutting-edge ICs or high-performance chips. Instead, it was achieved through a combination of inexpensive, stable components.
This approach reflects research that focuses not on achieving the highest performance, but on improving the most common, practical performance. However, even if the technology succeeds, it doesn’t mean companies will immediately take notice. It only becomes viable when you show them how to use it. Simply honing a technology blindly isn’t enough.
“Creating needs, proposing them to society, and finding the best solutions for everything” — this is an incredibly challenging task. In my case, I not only created diamonds but also imagined and proposed their uses, which eventually led to the concept of the “AI Sommelier.”
Having gone through this process, we founded ExtenD Co., Ltd. I look forward to your continued support as we move forward!
Shinya Oomagari
CTO of ExtenD Co.,Ltd.
